Don't mess with Jasper

Something about parking again: In our company there are two groups of employees, those with and those without a parking. Only upper management and commercial people have a private parking, the rest has to find one of the rare spots in the area. So as a developer I don’t have a parking and that’s why I am going to work by public transport now. Today a project manager (that’s not upper management) – Ernst – dared to park on the spot of one of the commercial guys – Jasper – and didn’t remove it on request. Well, Jasper doesn’t like to walk and was absolutely not amused. He reacted with a wheel clamp (EUR 65 at Halfords) and if it happens again, he will not remove it again.

Parking a Sports Activity Vehicle

Have you ever wondered, why city people drive a car, which looks like it has been designed to cross the Scottish highlands or the Siberian tundra? Well, since in Amsterdam they build office buildings without enough car parkings for those people who might actually work in those buildings or visit companies in these buildings, a BMW Sports Activity Vehicle can be very handy when I comes to alternative parking.

Traffic situation in the Randstad

The Randstad is the central area of Holland between Amsterdam, Rotterdam and Utrecht. Here we find the highest density of population and of course regular traffic jams. This animation shows the traffic situation today between 6am and 8pm.You can clearly see the morning and afternoon rush hour. One second of animation represents 30 minutes.
It has been a relatively normal day. On bad days the way from Almere to Amsterdam is completely red.

Almere traffic on a normal Tuesday

I though it would be interesting to see how the traffic situation in Almere changes during a day, so based on the site with the traffic information I created a small animated movie. It shows the traffic condition in Almere between 6am and 8pm on April 4, 2006. Almere is a fast growing town, which currently has 179.059 inhabitants. By 2010 it will be more than 200.000. Handling the growth of traffic is a real challenge, both inside of the city and even more in the direction of Amsterdam, where it is already collapsing every day.
